K-Pop Idol Makeover in Seoul: Where to Go

Everyone Wants the K-Pop Idol Look. Not Everyone Finds the Right Studio.
The idol look depends on both makeup technique and a studio that photographs well.
The "K-pop idol makeover + professional photoshoot" has become one of the most popular tourist experiences in Seoul. The problem? There are dozens of studios marketing this experience, and the quality gap between the best and worst is enormous.
Some places deliver celebrity-grade transformations. Others slap on heavy makeup, rush you through poses, and send you home with photos that look nothing like the Instagram previews.
We tracked which studios YouTube creators actually visited -- paid out of their own pocket, documented on camera -- to separate the genuinely good from the marketing hype.
The Makeup Studios
Makeup studios differ most in skin finish, lash style, and how dramatic the final look becomes.
ABYBOM -- The Premium Choice
Area: Gangnam (Seolleung) | From 350,000 KRW | 4 creator vlogs
The most creator-visited premium makeup studio. Breanna Quan (1.33M subs, 268K views) got her makeover here alongside a photoshoot at Octobee Studio. amazingishgrace (378K subs) and Lani Pliopa (403K subs) also visited.
What you get: K-actor or K-pop idol style hair and makeup. This is the full transformation -- not a quick touch-up. Expect 60-90 minutes in the chair.
Why it costs more: The artists here have worked with actual K-pop idols and K-drama actors. You're paying for that level of technique.
Best for: People who want THE premium experience and are planning a photoshoot afterward.
Vivianne Makeup -- The Budget Star
Area: Hongdae | From 100,000 KRW | 1 creator vlog
Featured in Jooshica's viral "$8000 Extreme Glow Up in Korea" (2.68M subs, 482K views). At a fraction of ABYBOM's price, Vivianne offers daily makeup and ID photo packages that still deliver solid results.
What you get: Makeup + hair styling. The ID photo package (139K) includes proof photos -- great if you also need updated profile pictures.
Best for: Budget-conscious tourists who want quality K-style makeup without the celebrity price tag.
OuiOui Atelier -- The Creative Studio
Area: Gangnam (Apgujeong) | 130,000-330,000+ KRW | 2 creator vlogs
Samantha Harvey (145K subs, 308K views) called it a "K-beauty artist" experience. Jooshica also returned here for a second video on "Korean MUA's favourites" (72K views).
What makes it different: More artistic and editorial than the typical idol makeover. If you want a creative, fashion-forward look rather than a standard K-pop replica, this is the studio.
Jungnam -- The Trendy Pick
Area: Gangnam (Dosan) | From 210,000 KRW | 3 creator vlogs
Isa Sung (249K subs) and sallykim7 (259K subs, 87K views on her "kpop idol transformation" video) are two examples; our current DB tracks 3 creator visits. Known for personalized recommendations -- they adjust the look based on your face shape and coloring rather than applying a cookie-cutter idol template.
Others Worth Knowing
Chahongroom (Myeongdong + Apgujeong): 55K-450K KRW range. Dual location. Myeongdong branch is more tourist-accessible, Apgujeong branch is more premium.
JOY187 (Cheongdam): From 110K. Good mid-range option in the fashion district.
Mallang Makeup Studio (Sinsa): 100K-250K. Reviews praise the "amazing experience" and attentive service.
The Photo Studios
Photo studios matter because lighting and retouching can make or break the makeover result.
Octobee Studio -- The Creator Favorite
Area: Gangnam (Sinsa) | 260,000-650,000 KRW | 5 creator vlogs
The most creator-visited photo studio in Seoul. Breanna Quan, amazingishgrace, Lani Pliopa, sallykim7, and Asmi have all shot here. 91 Google reviews with 88 in English -- this place knows how to work with international clients.
"Had such a great time, so much fun!" -- Google review
Best for: The full K-pop idol photo package. Often paired with ABYBOM for makeup.
Sanho Mansion -- The Aesthetic Choice
Area: Jung-gu (near Sewoon) | 150,000 KRW/session | 4 creator vlogs
julia ma (274K subs) featured it in her 492K-view vlog. Unlike the modern, sleek look of other studios, Sanho Mansion has a vintage/retro aesthetic that gives your photos a completely different feel.
Best for: People who want something more editorial and less "standard K-pop." Also very Instagram-friendly interiors.
Modelro Studio Hongdae -- The Budget Pick
Area: Hongdae | From 35,000 KRW | 3 creator vlogs
97 Google reviews (89 in English). At 35,000 KRW for basic photos, this is the most affordable studio with strong creator validation. Great for ID photos, profile pictures, or casual portrait sessions.
Best for: Budget travelers, anyone in the Hongdae area, quick profile photo sessions.
Rednow Studio -- The All-in-One
Area: Jung-gu | From 150,000 KRW | 1 creator vlog
95 Google reviews. Notably, they offer color analysis + makeup + photoshoot as a combined package. One reviewer wrote: "Best studio in Korea! I did color analysis, makeup and photoshoot session... I finally know my season colors."
Best for: People who want color analysis + photos in one stop without visiting multiple places.
The Creator-Proven Combos
Creator-tested combinations are useful when you want makeup, styling, and final photos in one route.
Based on what YouTubers actually booked together:
The Premium Pipeline ($400-$700)
ABYBOM makeup → Octobee Studio photoshoot
This is what Breanna Quan, amazingishgrace, and Lani Pliopa all did. The two studios are both in Gangnam and work well as a same-day combo. Budget: ABYBOM (350K) + Octobee (260K-650K) = 610K-1,000K KRW.
The Mid-Range Pipeline ($200-$350)
Jungnam or OuiOui makeup → Sanho Mansion photoshoot
Isa Sung did Jungnam + another studio shoot. Samantha Harvey combined OuiOui with her Seoul content. Budget: Makeup (130K-210K) + Sanho (150K) = 280K-360K KRW.
The Budget Pipeline ($100-$180)
Vivianne Makeup → Modelro Studio Hongdae
Both in affordable areas. Vivianne (100K) + Modelro (35K-105K) = 135K-205K KRW. Best value for the full makeover + photo experience.
Red Flags to Watch For
"Before/after" photos that look AI-enhanced. If the studio's portfolio looks too perfect, the final photos might be heavily filtered. Creator vlogs show unfiltered results.
No individual reviews mentioning specific staff. Good studios have named artists. Bad ones are interchangeable.
Pressure to upgrade on-site. If they try to upsell you into a more expensive package after you sit down, that's a red flag.
No clear pricing upfront. Any reputable studio publishes their prices. "Contact for pricing" in Seoul beauty usually means tourist markup.
